
Call park is a business phone feature that places an active call in a shared holding spot, identified by a park code, so the call can be picked up again from any extension on the system. It is built into every AgileIP line, and it is the difference between tying a caller to one phone and handing them off to whoever is free to help.
Call park vs. call hold vs. call transfer
These three features look similar but solve different problems:
- Call hold keeps the caller on the same phone and the same extension. Only the person who placed the call on hold can pick it back up, and the line stays busy while they do.
- Call park moves the caller into a shared slot tied to a park code rather than to one phone. Anyone on the system can retrieve the call from their own extension, and the original line is freed for the next call.
- Call transfer sends the call to one specific destination you choose. Call park, by contrast, leaves the call waiting for whoever turns out to be best placed to take it.
How call park works
- While on a call, an employee parks it to a park code, a numbered slot on the system.
- The system places the caller on hold with music or a message, and frees the original line.
- The employee lets the right person know a call is waiting, often by announcing the park code over paging.
- Anyone on the system dials that park code from their own extension and resumes the conversation.
